The Top 5 Benefits of a Sports Massage
Mar 10, 2022When it comes to looking after your body and how you feel it is so hard to know how best to help yourself. That's why we have put together our top 5 benefits of a sports massage. So read on to see how it could help you, and find out about our special offer at the end.
1. Reduce stress:
Massage is a great way to relieve stress, we often see people who come in and the first thing they say is, “I hold stress and tension in my shoulders”. One session of massage and we have often reduced that stress and eased symptoms out. When you are stressed your blood pressure goes up. To combat this, massage techniques commonly cause vasodilation, a widening of the blood vessels. This vasodilation enables more blood to flow through the muscles, allowing your blood pressure to drop and aiding relaxation. No wonder people often feel a little woosy or light headed after your massage! Taking a little time out for yourself also helps, along with the knowledge that someone is looking after you for once! There are many reasons why massage helps reduce stress!
2. Reduce aches:
Everyone suffers with aches and pains. You know what you feel like after a hard day in the garden, a long walk or an important race. Having a massage helps muscles release and relax. Hard working muscles can get a build up of the waste products resulting from that work. The vasodilation effect we mentioned above helps because by improving blood flow to the aching area, better nutrition and elimination of those waste products can occur which, in turn, reduces the ache. Clever stuff!
3. Improves range of movement:
We often hear in clinic that daily tasks become a struggle, particularly in the neck and lower back areas. A sports massage will help improve your range of movement because it works on relaxing muscles, easing tension and tightness. When muscles are more relaxed you get a better range of movement through your joints. Adding in a few stretches and exercises to do at home will help further and maintaining these changes.
4. Improves performance:
If you are in training for a big event or enjoy playing sport as a hobby a massage is a great way to flush through the muscles so that you are fighting fit and able to get out and enjoy the sports you take part in. Massage before events can also help improve performance by improving blood flow to muscles.
5. Improves wellbeing:
Having a regular massage is a great way to have some time to yourself to unwind. Self care is crucial in our busy lives and something we seldom do. We don’t have an endless supply of energy to give to others. Taking time for you is the most beneficial thing you can do. Also, the power of touch should never be underestimated. We all need it.
